I. GENERAL INFORMATION
Wake Electric Round-Up, the North Carolina Wake Electric Membership Corporation (WEMC) energy assistance program, provides funds to help their low-income customers alleviate a heating or cooling crisis. Since implementation, seven counties have received funding through this program. Wake Electric Membership Corporation has been very pleased with the excellent work by local department of social services staff in administering the program. Effective immediately, Wake Electric has implemented new policy changes to their eligibility requirements.
II. POLICY PROCEDURES
All Wake Electric households must provide a copy of their current WEMC bill with the name of the applicant printed on the bill. If the applicant is not listed on the bill, a call must be made to WEMC advising them of the name of the applicant before a pledge can be made. WEMC will determine if the applicant has any outstanding accounts with them. Pledges will not be accepted for applicants with outstanding uncollectable accounts until arrangements are made for paying on their outstanding debt.
An applicant may still apply for Wake Electric Round-Up if their electricity bill is not in their name; however, the above procedure has to be completed. The county will need to verify with WEMC that the applicant has made an arrangement.
III. IMPLEMENTATION INSTRUCTIONS
This policy is effective as of the date of this letter.
