DSS ADMINISTRATIVE LETTER NO. FOOD ASSISTANCE AND ENERGY PROGRAMS 05-2003

(Food Stamps)

TO: County Directors of Social Services

ATTENTION: Food Stamp Supervisors

SUBJECT: Project Share Change

DATE: September 17, 2003

Project Share is a source of assistance to pay heating and cooling related crises experienced by customers of Progress Energy, formerly Carolina Power and Light Company and North Carolina Natural Gas Company. Policy found in EP Section 920, Carolina Power and Light Company’s Project Share, stipulates that use of Project Share funds is limited to counties that have customers of the specific electric and gas companies. The Progress Energy representative has recently notified us that North Carolina Natural Gas Company is being sold to another utility company, and that those customers are no longer eligible to receive Project Share funds.

Effective immediately, do not authorize Project Share funds to pay North Carolina Natural Gas Company bills. If a North Carolina Natural Gas customer is eligible for crisis heating assistance, approve Crisis Intervention Program funds, if available.

If you have any questions, contact your Food Assistance and Energy Programs Representative.

Sincerely,

Wilbert R. Morris, Associate Director

WRM/jhs
