The adoption statute, Chapter 48 of the North Carolina General Statutes, clearly outlines the steps to be followed to bring about a valid adoption. Standard forms for legal proceedings have been prepared by the North Carolina Division of Social Services to meet the legal requirements of the adoption statute.
