Make the following change(s)

I. BACKGROUND

The amount of the student earned income exclusion is adjusted each year by the cost of living adjustment (COLA) that is used to adjust the SSI Federal Benefit rate. The COLA for 2008 is 2.3%.

II. Content of change

A. Effective January 1, 2008, exclude up to $1,550 per month, but no more than $6,240 total for the year 2008, of the countable earned income of an eligible student.

B. Correction: The SSI couples income limit figure used in MA-2110, Passalong, II.E. Example III is incorrect. The correct figure for 2008 is $976 (2008 Monthly SSI payment for couples plus $20 income disregard).

III. Effective Date and implementation

This policy is effective January 1, 2008. Apply this change to applications taken and redeterminations started on or after January 1, 2008, as well as to those presently in process.
