SUBJECT: Medicare Savings Program Resource limit Increase for 2011

Medicaid Eligibility Staff
The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare announced that effective January 1, 2011, there will be an increase in the resource (asset) limits for the Medicare Savings Program (MSP), known in North Carolina as the MQB programs, and the Low Income Subsidy programs shall increase.
The Low Income Subsidy resource limits effective January 1, 2011 will be $8,180 for an individual and $13,020 for a couple.
The resource limits North Carolina will use for the MQB program effective January 1, 2011 has been changed from $6,600 for an individual to $6,680 and $9,910 for a couple to $10,020.
This policy change is effective 01/01/2011. Apply this change to applications taken and redeterminations started on or after January 1, 2011 and for applications and redeterminations presently in process only for months beginning January 2011 or later.
